For the past 21 years, the “Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” program has endured to honor senior citizens of Washington County for their devotion and service to their respective communities, without the expectation of any reciprocal benefits. That tradition continued in August 2025, wherein the non-profit, volunteer program recognized and lauded two specific senior citizens and delivered personal care packages to hundreds of other senior citizens. The two individuals honored were Mrs. Cleo Jones Daniels and Mrs. RV Franklin. (See "Honoree" page for specifics.)
Under the guidance of Mrs. Veronica Ferguson Maxie, on Friday, August 9th, a group of volunteers distributed bundles of personal care packages to elderly residents in local nursing homes, including High Hope Care Center, Brenham Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, and Argent Court Assisted Living Center. This initiative was followed on Saturday, August 9th, by teams of volunteers who delivered hundreds ofindividual care packages to senior citizens residing in private homes across Brenham, Burton, Chappell Hill, Washington, and surrounding areas. (See "Photos" page.)

These personal care packages contained vital items such as socks, hand lotion, hand sanitizer, toothpaste, toothbrushes, blankets, puzzles, coloring books, and gift cards. Additionally, the care packages featured handmade greeting cards created by youth from local churches and various communities. Program co-founders Mrs. Veronica Ferguson-Maxie and son Mr. Tre Maxie report that they are deeply thankful to the volunteers and sponsors who support and make this program possible.

The nonprofit organization is now shifting its focus towards activities in preparation for its program scheduled for August 2026. Our Mission
The mission of the Brenham Community Festival's "Celebrate Our Seniors" program is to recognize, honor and celebrate the contributions that senior citizens of Washington County have made in their communities. Oftentimes, these individuals and the positive impact they have had on their communities go unrecognized. To date, the program has acknowledged the positive contributions of over 75 individuals and couples. And during the pre-COVID period when in-person programs were being held, over 3,500 meals have been served to program participants. In addition to the recognition and meal, live gospel music, bingo games, and door prizes (including cash) were integral to the program.

During the 2018 program, the name of the annual program was changed to The "Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” Day Program in honor of Ms. Thomye Delle Jameson-Ferguson-Burnett, one of the first persons to be honored by the program (2005).
