The Hattie Lee Franklin-Maxie Bingo Challenge
When the "Celebrate Our Seniors" committee got together to plan the first program honoring senior citizens, it became immediately clear that "bingo" had to be a part of the program. And it has been an integral part of every program since its inception.
Today, the bingo challenge is named in honor of Mrs. Hattie Lee Franklin-Maxie (December 15, 1929 - January 1, 2005). A God-fearing, kind individual who shared her many talents with everyone, Mrs. Maxie contributed tirelessly to the success of many in Brenham. She was not only enthusiastic about sharing her many talents and teaching, but she also LOVED a simple game of bingo. As fate would have it, she was the winner of the inaugural senior's bingo tournament.
Thanks to donations by many companies and individuals, the bingo challenge has grown in scope and now includes numerous variations of the game, with winners at all levels. The grand prize bingo tournament, however, is restricted to seniors 65 and over. And the winner has his or her name engraved on a commemorative plaque, in addition to receiving a cash award.
