Each year members of the community are invited to nominate senior citizens for the "Celebrate Our Seniors" and the "Rev. (Dr.) James & Sis. Hester Dennis Honorary Service" awards.

The Brenham Community Festival then organizes selection committees to review the applications and nominations, and select the appropriate award recipients. 
 
Typically, three to five "Celebrate Our Seniors" awards are presented.  Likewise, the Rev. (Dr.) James & Sis. Hester Dennis Honorary Service" are presented, when appropriate.

Historically, "Celebrate Our Seniors" holds in-person programs annually on the second Saturday in August.  Due to COVID, however, there were no in-person programs in 2020, 2021, and 2022.  Instead, the program delivered senior care packages to seniors in local nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and private residences
 
While practicing precautionary measures, "Celebrate Our Seniors" held an in-person program in 2023 (its 20th year!).  Again, due to precautionary measures for our often fragile senior citizens, the program returned to delivering personal care packages in 2024. 
 
As for 2025 and beyond, the program organizers and volunteers, along with others, will periodically assess the prevailing health and environmental conditions to determine what type of program to develop for the ensuing years.  Stay tuned.
