For 19 consecutive years, the Brenham Community Festival, a 501c3 non-profit organization, held its annual “Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” program during the weekend of August 12-14, 2022.

The goal of the program is to recognize and honor Washington County senior citizens for their long term unheralded contributions to their communities.  Given continuing COVID concerns, in lieu of an in-person program focused on individual honorees, the program delivered over 150 care packages to senior citizens in local nursing homes, rehabilitation centers, and private residences.

Once again the program was a huge success.  Program organizer and co-founder Veronica Ferguson-Maxie says, “Our seniors were so happy and so blessed to receive the love gifts we gave out.  This was only possible through the out-pouring of support from churches, businesses, organizations, and individual volunteers.”

The love gifts were in the form of senior care packages, which included blankets, hand sanitizer, socks, face masks, Kleenex, body wash, note pads, snacks, and other assorted personal items.  Senior were also presented with a greeting card that had been handmade by the Youth Ministry of Mt. Rose Missionary Baptist Church.

Program co-founder Tre’mayne Maxie mentioned that next year’s program truly represents a major milestone.  “God instilled in us a commitment to do this 19 years ago, and God willing, we will celebrate our 20th year in 2023.”

Maxie discussed how the program started out with only a handful of people coming together in 2004 and how, before COVID in 2020, it had progressed to a structured program encompassing several hundred senior citizens and community leaders.  In anticipation that the program will return to an in-person venue in 2023, organizers are making plans to recognize and commemorate the program’s remarkable 20th anniversary, while also continuing to deliver much needed care packages to seniors.

Regardless of what type of program is held in 2023, the community’s support is needed.  Anyone interested in nominating a senior citizen for one of the program’s special awards, or in submitting a senior citizen’s name for a care package, or in supporting the program through donations (which are tax deductible), or in volunteering to help out in any other way should contact Veronica Ferguson-Maxie through the “Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” program at telephone (979) 830-5555, email address celebrateourseniorsday04@gmail.com, or mailing address Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors, 2628 Hwy 36S, Suite #244, Brenham, Texas 77833.  Additional information about the program may be viewed on the program’s website at www.celebrateourseniors.com

Our Mission

The mission of the Brenham Community Festival's "Celebrate Our Seniors" program is to recognize, honor and celebrate the contributions that the citizens of Washington County have made to their communities.  Oftentimes, these individuals and the positive impact they have had on their communities go unrecognized.  To date, the program has acknowledged the positive contributions of over 75 individuals and couples.  And over 3,500 meals have been served to program participants.  In addition to the recognition and meal, live gospel music is presented, bingo is available, and door prizes (including cash) are awarded.

During the 2018 program, the name of the annual program was changed to The "Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” Day Program in honor of Ms. Thomye Delle Jameson-Ferguson-Burnett, one of the first persons to be honored by the program (2005).
