"Celebrate Our Seniors" Tradition Continues in 2022
As it has been doing since 2005, on the second weekend in August the Brenham Community Festival will host its annual “Thomye Delle Celebrate Our Seniors” program. The program honors Washington County senior citizens for their oftentimes unheralded support of their communities.
Like the 2021 program, due to lingering COVID concerns the 2022 program will focus on providing personal care packages to senior citizens in several local skilled care facilities and in private homes. These care package will be distributed primarily during the weekend of August 13-14, 2022.
Over 150 care packages are scheduled to be delivered by program volunteers. Care packages will include an assortment of hand sanitizer, snacks, socks, body wash, powder, lotion, hand cream, Q-tips, blankets, playing cards, writing pads, ink pens, gift cards, facial masks, and much more.
According to program co-founder and organizer Veronica Ferguson-Maxie, none of this is possible without the outpouring of support from local companies, churches, organizations, and private individuals. To fulfill this year’s commitment to our senior citizens, these establishments are once again being solicited for product and financial donations. Likewise, co-founder Tre Maxie says it’s a tremendous blessing to continue this celebration of our seniors for the past 19 years, they are our lens into our history and our guide to the future!
Anyone interested in supporting the program, or in submitting additional names of senior citizens for the care packages should contact Veronica Ferguson-Maxie through the “Celebrate Our Seniors” program at telephone (979) 830-5555, email address email@example.com, or mailing address Celebrate Our Seniors, 2628 Hwy 36S, Suite #244, Brenham, Texas 77833. The mission of the Brenham Community Festival's "Celebrate Our Seniors" program is to recognize, honor and celebrate the contributions that the citizens of Washington County have made to their communities. Oftentimes, these individuals and the positive impact they have had on their communities go unrecognized. To date, the program has acknowledged the positive contributions of over 75 individuals and couples. And over 3,500 meals have been served to program participants. In addition to the recognition and meal, live gospel music is presented, bingo is available, and door prizes (including cash) are awarded.
During the 2018 program, the name of the annual program was changed to The Thomye Delle “Celebrate Our Seniors” Day Program in honor of Ms. Thomye Delle Jameson-Ferguson-Burnett, one of the first persons to be honored by the program (2005).
